On several club members and their dogs took part in a demonstration of pet obedience at the Elands Veterinary Clinic, Dunton Green, near Sevenoaks, Kent. The demonstration was aimed initially to promote “the dog in the community” however this was also as part of National Pet week. The demonstration included basic heelwork, novice recall, a one minute stay (positions decided by the handlers) play with toys, with the toys given up when requested together with a down command and social meetings etc. All of our canine partners displayed themselves faultlessly, without exception, and we had a really good response from the spectators present. It type of display is good publicity for the club on how to train your best friend with love, kindness and leadership from our patient instructors. Elands surgery staff also gave the public a guided tour of their surgery, which was most impressive. They have a modern and very well equipped operating theatre and are the only surgery in the southeast that have the equipment to use laser treatment and “keyhole surgery”. The surgery also has a scanner. The afternoon was a great success and was enjoyed by all! |
